Last Monday, we gathered again for POOT: Phasing Out of Trauma.
It was lovely to see how this one woman, who felt so much fear, chose to share a bit of her story. However, therapists disagree on whether to share one’s story or not, as it may trigger PTSD.
For most of us, it has been healing. Just having others listen, hold, and offer encouraging feedback is so validating. Being heard, seen, and known makes one feel loved. Slowly, the fear melted away. She held her head high and shared a bit of her story, feeling embraced.
Sharing our trauma stories is encouraged in POOT but never pushed. Women are allowed to pass. And reminded to share whatever is comfortable. We offer compassionate listening.
Being genuinely heard without interruption or judgment is priceless.
After the sharing time, I led a spiritual practice in Phase One that states, “I admit the trauma and desire God to be a part of my healing.” I want to share it with you.
Find a safe, quiet place.
Take a few deep breaths. Breathe in the love of God; breathe out any distractions.
Slowly read the prayer out loud three times. The first time, see what jumps out at you. The second time, see what this means. The third time, see if there is an invitation from God.
Spend time answering the reflection questions.
Journal your responses, insights, and any wisdom from God.
POOT Prayer
El Roi, God who sees me, loves me, and knows
me, grant me the courage
to face the effects of my trauma, The
wisdom to understand their meaning, and
the strength to enter the healing process,
so that I may become the woman I was
created to be. Amen.
